A quiet moment in the woods
Why we read

Why we write

Why we write

“Writing isn't about making money, getting famous, getting dates, getting laid, or making friends. In the end, it's about enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life, as well. It's about getting up, getting well, and getting over. Getting happy, okay? Getting happy.” - Stephen King

“All that I hope to say in books, all that I ever hope to say, is that I love the world.”   - E.B. White

I like this!

I like the Stephen King quote because it gets us away from that old idea that artists must suffer to make their art, whereas my aim is to create art that 'enriches the world' - both the world at large, and also the smaller world of my own life. My artform is music, not writing but this quote speaks to me too.

And the E.B. White quote, oh that's it exactly. I make music to express my love for the world, a love that is sometimes flowing and good and happy and sometimes painful and fractured or sorrowful - but whatever kind of music it is, it always comes out of love.
