The Animal Helpers of T.H. White
Tunes for a Monday Morning

((Take care.))

Hi Terri

Take care and get plenty of rest. Sending positive thoughts for a quick recovery and personal comfort.

Take care

Be well, Terri. My wife Marcia and I used to manage a resort in Ontario's 'near north' and in searching through the library archives I came across this story. So far as I know, it's true.

It was October, 1838 if I remember correctly, and this boy left his house to go berry picking. What he didn't know was that he was leaving at the front edge of the remnant of a hurricane. Before long he was lost, cold and wet, but he came across a sort of hole with a big yellow dog in it, so he crawled in and snuggled up to the dog, who was both warm and dry.

In the morning the dog left but came back in the evening and repeated this pattern over the next several days. The boy was found, safe and sound (although dehydrated) after five days. As you may have guessed, it wasn't a dog with which he was sharing the den; he was discovered by a dog that had been trained to track bears.

P.S. There are six colour phases for black bears: black, brown, blue/gray, cinnamon, white and honey (blond).
